This is one of the few short films that's got me emotional. I don't think it was something like cheating, as some other theories suggest. Rather, the same love they had for each other at the beginning died out slowly through the relationship. They tried to mend it by doing what they originally did as seen with the ramen, but the feeling (flower) wasn't how it used to be. They end up cutting it off, as shown with the final hug and the flower fully decomposing.
